I lost my job due to a mass layoff
Started smoking a pack a day
I became depressed
I started becoming sick
I was always in pain
My blood pressure and cholesterol went from normal to high
My hair started falling out
My kidneys started misbehaving
I became so disgusted with myself that I shut myself in.
Gained weight and got labelled as Obese (234 lbs)
I got so fed up that I wished and wished for a miracle to come along. Wake up and be skinny, or all the food I ate would have no effect - stupid things like that. I felt like I would gain weight by even looking at dessert. But I did nothing about it.
Does this sound familiar??
For many of you, I'm sure it does. You probably have different circumstances but in the end - we all reach the same roadblock.
If you're anything like me - you reached for a snack to help you feel better.
Got cramps? Eat chocolate!
Depressed? Big ol bowl of ice cream with all the toppings.
In a rush to get to work in the morning - skip breakfast and grab a big Double Espresso Chai Latte from Starbucks on the way.
Feeling too tired to cook at the end of the day? Bah! We just got paid - let's get a bucket of KFC!
We've all been there! If you haven't - good for you! (Seriously, I'm not being sarcastic).
I was cooped up at home, scrolling through Facebook when I ran into one of my old high school friends. She added me, and invited me to a Challenge "Time to Start loving Me". I explained my life and health to her, thinking it would turn her away - nope! She told me she had her own struggles and battled through them with the help from her own coach.
She convinced me to try a product called the 21 Day Fix. I was skeptical at first but figured "why the heck not, it can't harm me"
The program is designed with the idea that it takes 21 days to break a habit, in this case my terrible eating habits. It teaches you by providing containers that you use throughout the day to carefully measure your portions of each of the food groups. On top of that, there are disks that include 7 - 30 minute workouts. Meaning one 30 minute workout a day.
Back in the day, we were all taught healthy eating habits as children. You need to eat the right amounts of each food group throughout the day to be healthy. But now if you go to a restaurant, you are getting up to three times the amount of the recommended servings. This sticks with us and we end up consuming more that we need, the rest being stored as fat. Which becomes a habit.
My package arrived and I was super stoked!!!
The book that came with the system had a very detailed list of approved clean foods that you should be eating daily. But when I first saw the containers my heart dropped. They looked so tiny!!
After reading more, you end up doing a bit of math based on your current weight to tell you how much of each container you need.
For me, I need 6 Green (Veggies), 4 Purple (fruit), 6 Red (Protein), 4 Yellow (Carbs), 1 Blue (cheese/fatty fruits/nuts). 1 Orange (Salad dressing, seeds) and 6 teaspoons (oils, nut butters)
Now I'm a big girl, but I can tell you what - there was no hope in heaven I was going to be able to eat that much!! My eating habits consisted of skipping breakfast, eating a decent sized lunch, then pick on junk until dinner then a chocolate bar or bag of chips before bed.
So the biggest challenge in my opinion with this system is to plan your meals ahead of time. You should be eating a minimum of 3 meals a day and two snacks. Ideally you are eating every 2-3 hours.
My favorite part is I don't have to stop drinking coffee (yes!!!). I need it in the morning or else I'll rip someone's face off (figuratively speaking of course).
